On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of California State University, Fullerton, I welcome you as a member of our Titan family. You made an outstanding decision when you became an employee of our University. Cal State Fullerton is an exceptional institution of higher education that does a superior job of educating Orange County and Southern California. This is the direct result of our working together and taking pride in our university and our own unique contributions.
In this Guide, you will find the university’s Mission and Goals statement. Refer to it often, especially to give you direction in your position. Please understand that when you selected Cal State Fullerton as your employer, you became the single most important ambassador the university will ever have. How the university is perceived rests directly on your shoulders. What is of paramount importance is how we treat our students, our visitors and telephone callers, and our co-workers. Of equal impact is how we portray the university to our friends and neighbors. Please accept this charge wholeheartedly.
There is much to be proud of at Cal State Fullerton and much for you to share with others. We play a major role in the intellectual, cultural and economic lives of our geographic region. Given the charge of teaching as a member of the state’s three-tiered system of higher education, Cal State Fullerton educates highly skilled and well-prepared university graduates. With 85 percent remaining within a 50-mile radius of campus, our graduates occupy key spots in business, industry, government, the political arena, and education.
The university—with its main campus in Fullerton, a branch campus in Irvine, and satellites in Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and at the Irvine Spectrum—is one of Orange County's largest employers and purchasers. Our presence is a key factor in the prosperity and progress of this area. With more than 35,000 students and more than 1,900 full- and part-time faculty and 1,500 staff employees, Cal State Fullerton generates $851 million in economic activity annually sustaining more than 12,500 jobs in the region and generating more than $45 million per year in state tax revenue. In addition, there are over 40,000 enrollments each year in the non-state-funded classes administered by University Extended Education (UEE). The UEE programs include degree courses, short courses, and certificate programs.
I encourage you to acquaint yourself with the valuable information in this Guide and to become thoroughly familiar with Cal State Fullerton so that you will share my pride. Visit the CSUF web site. Take classes; attend theater, music, dance, and art programs in the new Performing Arts Center; cheer for our athletic teams; read our publications; tour the Fullerton Arboretum, Heritage House, and the Anthropology Museum; utilize our recreation program; and become a member of one of our many support groups.
